Unpleasant place. Beach had dog poo on it plus dogs running loose and jumping up people on the promenade. Not the sort of place Id go again for a day out especially with children.

Great Place for a day out by train. On any sunny day the road into Barry Island gets very congested (as in the last mile can easily take an hour or more) which impacts cars, buses and coaches but the train does not suffer from these problems. Two things to be aware of if you take a picnic, or similar, is that the beach, promenade and the gardens fronting them are Alcohol Free Zones (without much in the way of signage) which can catch out the unwary & please use the plentiful & regularly emptied bins rather than littering, (the latter is good advice anywhere).
World class beach and quaint resort such a pity about the unpredictability of the weather. Cant deny its beauty and its old fashioned charm.
