Fantastic carvery. Loads of veg to choose from too. Highly recommend to everyone
Working away from home, perfect for all my needs, bar downstairs, easy walk down hill to Barry town, not so easy coming back after a curry and a few beers, rooms basic but clean and housekeeping staff are lovely and friendly. Matress is a nightmare, lumpy springs could be solved with a topper but I'm using my camping roll mat and that works great.
For 45 a night, this may be one of the cheaper pub B&Bs in Barry, but I still don't know if it's worth it. It's above a pub, which you can get to through a door in reception. There was no-one at the reception so I ventured into the pub where a local hollered at the barman/owner/receptionist before he realised I was there...We had a double ensuite. The room size was fine. The furnishings were basic but shabby and the shower room smelled like my old student housing - damp and mouldy. If you're staying over the weekend, bring earplugs. The pub is on a main-ish road and can get the noisy post-club crowd wandering past it in the early hours. The free included breakfast which they said was "continental" consisted of mini boxes of cereal, white sliced bread for toast, some budget yogurts and some pretty old looking fruit, sachets of coffee and white granulated sugar. Self-served on sticky tables. If you book with low expectations, then lower them a little more and you'll be fine. It's about a half hour walk to Barry Island, and just up the road from the main high street. There is a free carpark for hotel guests, and I think I saw a garden with a bouncy castle out the back of the pub, so presumably good for kids.
I only put one star but I think half a star would be more accurate as the place was shocking. Food on the floor In both the restaurant and the counter. What I hope is water all over the toilet floor the food was over cooked when my zinger came out it had no sauce at all when I took it back the lad serving at the counter who had just taken cash over the counter took the zinger into the kitchen didn't wash his hands then opened the burger and put the sauce on....simply not good enough at all I will not be stopping there again
Excellent value for money. If youre looking for a cozy room, with good food and great people, look no further.
